Thirty Years In, Still Investing in the Future
December 30, 2025
As Energy Solutions wraps up our 30th anniversary year, we’ve been reflecting not just on how far we’ve come, but on what it will take to lead in the years ahead. For us, that reflection always comes back to people – how we work together, how we show up for clients, and how we solve difficult problems with technical expertise, creativity and integrity to drive large-scale clean energy and environmental impact. In 2025, that translated into meaningful investments in our leadership team, ensuring we’re positioned to advance our mission and support our clients in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.
This year, we expanded our executive team to support a larger and growing company by creating a new role for Chris Burmester as Chief Products & Strategy Officer and appointing Scott McGaraghan as Chief Operations Officer.
Chris has been an integral part of Energy Solutions’ leadership team for over 20 years, first founding the company’s information system team and then leading the company’s operations and growth. In 2025, Chris has taken on this new executive leadership role, overseeing the company’s long-term growth, strategic direction and innovation, as well as managing relationships with clients, partners, trade allies, and industry stakeholders. Known for his service-oriented leadership style, Chris has helped shape a culture built on trust, collaboration, and delivering on what we say we’ll do.
Scott rejoined Energy Solutions as COO to continue to strengthen operational leadership and excellence across the organization. Scott was one of the early employees at Energy Solutions from 1997-2000 and has since driven impacts in energy efficiency and demand management for organizations throughout the industry, including EnerNOC, Nest, Google, Voltus, AutoGrid, and Uplight. He brings a hands-on leadership style grounded in curiosity, respect, and a willingness to tackle tough challenges head-on.
New leaders from across the industry also joined Energy Solutions in 2025. Joel Zahlan came on board as Vice President of Energy Efficiency from The Cadmus Group, providing experienced and forward-thinking leadership for this important area of our business. We also added three Senior Directors, Jessica Kramer and Kevin Cote (formerly from Resource Innovations and CLEAResult, respectively) to lead key growth initiatives in program delivery excellence, and Mike Wong joined us from Biteable to lead software development, which has always been central to our track record of delivering cost effective, scalable, high-quality solutions.
The leaders who joined us in 2025 bring deep experience from across the energy industry, building on the strength of the talented leaders already guiding Energy Solutions, including 26 internal promotions into leadership roles in 2025. Together, their experience across program delivery, operations, technology, and strategy strengthens our teams and reflects a shared commitment to our mission-driven work, approaching challenges with determination, empathy, and a genuine desire to be great partners to the people we work with. These leaders are part of 100 new employees who joined the Energy Solutions’ team in our 30th year including seven “boomerangs” who rejoined the company after working elsewhere. Energy Solutions’ Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) continues to perform well and reward each employee as a partial owner.
With these leadership investments, Energy Solutions is building upon 30 years of experience while preparing for what’s next. As we face some of the biggest challenges we’ve seen in our industry, we continue to be optimistic about what a group of passionate, smart, and talented people can accomplish together to deliver meaningful clean energy and environmental impacts now and for the long term.
