Energy Solutions interns will have opportunities to shine, network across the company, connect with other interns, and present your work to supportive stakeholders. These are paid remote internships with an expectation of 20 – 40 hours/week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks between 6/12/2023 – 9/15/2023. Energy Efficiency

Disadvantaged Communities Program

Care deeply about environmental social justice? As part of the Energy Efficiency team, you will support our Hard-to-Reach (HTR) and Disadvantaged Communities (DAC) program implementation. This role includes program support, outreach and marketing tasks, and supporting implementation of HTR/DAC strategies outlined in the Environmental Social Justice (ESJ) Baseline Report for California Foodservice. Have a gift for outreach? As part of the Energy Efficiency team, this intern will support the Associate Director of the HVAC and Water Heating Trade Ally domain. New England Incentive Program Strategy

In partnership with the Energy Efficiency team, this intern will support our New England non-lighting incentive program and strategy research. This includes market research related to the clean heating sector, and claim processing and data analysis for electrification measures. Northwest Program Support

Are you seeking an opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of energy market principles and insight into project management? In partnership with the Energy Efficiency Team, this intern will support program operations related to our utility programs. Our program support and implementation activities include processing, program reporting, research, outreach, and special projects. Environmental Social Justice

Are you invested in environmental social justice? Interested in working with community organizations on equity issues? Have a knack for data? As a part of the Energy Efficiency Team, you will work with a passionate and mission-driven group to help develop product enhancements and partnerships that can maximize our impacts across disproportionately impacted populations. California Building Decarbonization

California is paving the way towards carbon-free homes and is leading the nation through decarbonization. As part of the Energy Efficiency Team, you will support TECH Clean California, the state’s flagship heat pump market transformation initiative for space and water heating. TECH Clean California makes installing heat pumps easy and accessible for contractors and customers, demonstrates scalable solutions to key market barriers via regional pilot projects, and informs the state’s decarbonization decision-making with public data, analyses, and case studies. Distributed Energy Resources

HPWH Market Research

Interested in clean water heating technology, or demand management and response? In partnership with the Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Team, this intern will support our demand management practice with a focus on heat pump water heaters (HPWH). You will research clean heating products and evaluate their demand management capabilities by conducting interviews with manufacturers and reviewing literature. From Analysis to Solution

Do you have a general understanding of U.S. environmental regulations and policy? Would you enjoy using data, math, and analytics to solve real world problems? In partnership with the Policy and Ratings team, this intern will conduct research and support our work in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation space. Investment Project Analysis

In partnership with the Finance Team, this intern will produce a standardized model in Excel for software investment projects to include ROI, NPV, and discounted cashflows. Business Strategy

China Relationship Development

Interested in East Asian markets? Fluency in Mandarin? Or experience working or living in China? In partnership with the Business Strategy team, this intern will identify, contact, and develop relationships with partner organizations that will help Energy Solutions work in China. Natural Gas Strategy Research

Interested in emerging technologies around decarbonization? In partnership with the Business Strategy team, this intern will research and support development of Energy Solutions’ natural gas strategy and focus on decarbonization efforts. This is an opportunity to gain knowledge of the industry as it pertains to current market trends and conduct research on emerging technologies. With the support of a mentor and colleagues, you will conduct research, prepare and deliver a presentation to stakeholder groups, and translate your research into deliverable action items and barriers to program implementation. New Markets Research (Energy, Agriculture, or Automotive sectors)

Interested or experienced with embodied carbon in steel or cement? Tire efficiency? Low emission-producing livestock feed? Refrigerant management? In partnership with the Business Strategy team, this intern will investigate new markets in the energy, agriculture, or automotive sectors. You will catalogue previous and existing work performed by our Policy & Ratings and Business Strategy teams on the topic of embodied carbon; research barriers to scale that are identified in current papers; interview SMEs within Energy Solutions; identify potential funders for solutions; and develop a SWOT analysis for each area. Energy Equity Resources and Training

Would you like to gain a deep understanding of how equity intersects with the energy efficiency industry? In partnership with the Business Strategy team, this intern will help us develop an energy equity-focused resource library, training materials, and other deliverables to support internal education and standardization of knowledge across the company. With collaboration and oversight from team members, you will have opportunities to research, categorize, and analyze energy equity-focused reports and white papers; develop training curricula, presentations, talking points, and fact sheets; help develop a strategy to disseminate information to key stakeholders. State Decarbonization Policy

Are you an energy policy wonk, or want to become one? In partnership with the Business Strategy team, this intern will conduct market and policy research around state-level policy and program strategies enabling decarbonization in select states. You will research state approaches to the Inflation Reduction Act, particularly specific provisions / programs around building electrification and community solar. In this role, you will gain an understanding of state goals and desired outcomes with regard to decarbonization, the policy mechanisms that states can leverage to achieve those desired outcomes, and how industry can assist states in implementing those policies / programs. & Strategy

Business Development

Want to gain a deep understanding of Energy Solutions’ products and services, client drivers, client goals, and how these might relate to business development? In partnership with the Growth Management and Strategy team, this intern will conduct research on potential clients to identify relationships for new business opportunities. You will develop a library of client profiles containing, program portfolios, performance, implementers, operating structure, and regional landscape (customers, political stances, policies, environmental justice). In this role, you will learn about utility regulatory environments and energy demand-side management for multiple industries: energy efficiency, solar, storage, electric vehicles, building codes, and appliance standards. All Energy Solutions interns prepare and deliver a presentation based on your work to a supportive audience. Accessibility Best Practices

In partnership with the Growth Management and Strategy team, this intern will develop an in-depth guidebook for accessibility with design support and guidance from our creative team on best practices and use cases. In this role, you will produce a resource that includes best practices for accessible Word, PowerPoint, and PDF documents; research and suggest accessibility improvements for marketing and communications pieces; and help standardize company templates with accessibility-focused instructions. You will learn to use accessibility testing software like WAVE, JAWS, and Validator to audit current Energy Solutions documents, videos, and websites (both internal and external) for ADA compliance.
