Founded in 1995, Energy Solutions is an employee-owned clean energy and climate mitigation consulting firm. We deliver large-scale environmental benefits by engineering, designing, and implementing market-based energy efficiency and demand management solutions. Energy Solutions interns will have opportunities to shine! As an intern, you can network across the company, connect with other interns, and present your work to supportive stakeholders. Our internships are:
- Full to part-time (20-40 hours a week).
- Paid:
- Undergraduates: $21/hour.
- Graduate students: $24/hour.
In order to be eligible for the internship program, you must be:
- Currently enrolled full- or part-time in an undergraduate program as a second to fourth-year student or enrolled in a graduate program.
- Please note we are unable to accept applications from first-year undergraduate students or recent graduates who are not enrolled in a program.
- A US Citizen or permanent resident.
- Please note we are unable to host international students.
- Available to meet your weekly hours requirement between May and August for Summer and between September and November for Fall.
- Motivated by the Energy Solutions’ mission to reduce carbon emissions with an equity lens.

Your work sample must:

You are permitted to submit a section of a larger document, including a document you wrote in collaboration with others, so long as the section you submit is entirely your own work.
- Be between 1 and 3 pages long, single or double spaced, not including sources. You may submit a document longer than 3 pages but we will not read past the 3rd page.
- Demonstrate your ability to communicate your thinking about an idea. This is vague by design; anything that you wrote—whether for a class, a job, or for personal reasons—and are proud of will probably suffice.
- Focus on a topic important to you. The topic does not have to be related to the internship you are applying for, but if it is, all the better.

2025 Internship Opportunities
Business Strategy
Business Strategy Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
Are you looking for hands-on experience in a wide-reaching business role? Are you excited about gaining direct insight into emerging opportunities related to climate mitigation? The Business Strategy Internship may be for you!
In this full-time position (30-40 hrs/week), you’ll have a wide reach across the Business Strategy Team (BST) supporting the day-to-day work of the Pilots team, the Products team, and the Environmental Social Justice team. In collaboration with your supervisor, you’ll advance knowledge in emerging technology business opportunities related to high-impact technologies and policies through research and interviews with industry professionals and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Your deliverables will include an evaluation matrix, a report including all findings, and an overall presentation to the BST with findings, which will expose you to high-ranking decision-makers in the department. The work provides an exciting opportunity to influence both current and future Energy Solutions programs. Throughout the internship, you will also gain insight into projects and departments beyond your own due to BST’s inherently collaborative nature.
Distributed Energy Resources
DERs Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
The Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Intern will gain real-world, hands-on industry experience. To help meet the needs of a growing team, you will directly support program operations and complete a research project, all to learn what the different avenues our department offers to mitigate climate change.
This full-time position (30-40 hrs/week) is a great opportunity for hands-on learning. You will not only own a research project on fleet vehicle electrification but discover business development opportunities for Demand Management and Clean Transportation—in essence, research fleet electrification market potential. In addition, you will work across teams to collaborate on Electric Vehicle (EV), e-bike, or demand management projects within the DERs department. This means helping us meet programmatic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for clients, reporting on them, and providing operational support to a variety of staff on other teams, all in service of Energy Solutions’ goal to improve the effectiveness of our programs. Finally, you will be responsible for documenting and updating guides for new and backfilled positions, providing you with an in-depth understanding of our department.
Solar Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
The Solar Intern will gain diverse, hands-on industry experience by working on a variety of components that make our Solar programs happen. To help meet the needs of our growing team, you will directly support program operations and learn what it’s like to help mitigate climate change.
This full-time position (30-40 hrs/week) will provide you with the opportunity to collaborate daily with staff in the Distributed Energy Solutions (DERs) department and beyond. This means supporting a variety of teams with tasks and reports that directly impact the present and future of our program. You will also report on data to help us meet programmatic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for clients and provide operational and administrative support to the Solar program team, all in service of Energy Solutions’ goal to increase the effectiveness of our work.
Energy Efficiency
Energy Efficiency Program Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
Are you data-savvy, detail oriented, and looking for real-world experience with midstream energy efficiency projects? Do you want to positively impact people and the environment? The Energy Efficiency Program Internship may be for you!
In this full-time (30-40 hrs/week), day-to-day program support role, you will work collaboratively with and gain professional mentorship from industry experts. The bulk of your tasks will be centered around midstream project data: analyzing, processing, managing, sorting, and extrapolating it to meet project goals. Your contributions will directly improve our client deliverables.
Energy Efficiency Shared Services Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
Are you data-savvy, detail oriented, and looking for real-world experience with midstream energy efficiency projects? Do you want to positively impact people and the environment? The Energy Efficiency Shared Services Internship may be for you!
In this full-time position (30-40 hrs/week), day-to-day program support role, you will work collaboratively with industry professionals across our midstream Energy Efficiency (EE) teams and Information Systems (IS) team. You will work on a variety of projects including Iris, our internal client management software. The bulk of your tasks will be centered around data: analyzing, processing, managing, sorting, and extrapolating to meet project goals. Your contributions will directly improve our client deliverables.
Energy Engineering Intern
Remote – US | Full-time
The Energy Engineering Intern position is an excellent opportunity for someone with engineering or data analysis savvy looking for real-world applications in the energy industry. If you are enrolled in an engineering or technical program aligned with Energy Solutions’ mission (including but not limited to environmental, mechanical or electrical engineering) and are detail oriented, this may be the role for you!
In this full-time position (30-40 hrs/week), you will closely collaborate with the engineers of our Energy Efficiency team. Your tasks will include data analysis, data organization, and day-to-day project support in service of Energy Solutions’ mission to mitigate climate change.
Trade Ally Strategy
National Account Management Intern
Remote – US | Part-time
Are you a strategic thinker or sales-oriented? Do you want to want real-world experience that positively impacts people and the planet? The National Account Management Internship may be for you!
This part-time (20 hrs/week) position will show you how the intersection of utilities, government and private companies create large-scale environmental impacts. You will not only provide day-to-day cross-departmental support that deepens your understanding of the industry but will also own a research project. This project will identify and inform market engagement strategies and business development opportunities, granting you valuable insight on this evolving industry and influencing the future of our programs.
