Demonstrate the viability of theCATALYST Rooftop-Unit (RTU) retrofit kit technology at scale, reduce adoption barriers for prospective customers, and provide validated project data.
Energy Solutions—partnered with technology provider Transformative Wave and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)—is implementing a large-scale deployment of the CATALYST RTU retrofit kit across a wide variety of building types, including restaurants, retail, and commercial offices across New York State. To accelerate in the adoption of this technology, the pilot offers $2,400 per RTU paid to contractors, validates project energy savings, demonstrates energy and non-energy benefits through case studies, provides an interactive online dashboard and hosts educational webinars.
Transformative Wave’s CATALYST retrofit kit cuts energy use by installing a variable frequency drive, sophisticated controls, and a network of sensors. The eIQ Web-based Platform—an optional add-on to CATALYST—can be connected to those sensors to monitor energy use and identify and diagnose mechanical problems within the RTU. Building operators can also take advantage of eIQ’s easy-to-use interface to adjust HVAC scheduling, or set consumption limits to increase the energy savings.
This suite of services enables customers to save energy, improve operations, enhance maintenance, and facilitate customer participation in demand response.
Transformative Wave’s CATALYST retrofit kit has been proven to reduce commercial and industrial customers’ HVAC energy use by 25% to 50% on its own. In addition, CATALYST also significantly improves indoor comfort, especially in buildings such as fast-food restaurants that have space pressure and air quality concerns. The full system, when paired with Transformative Wave’s eIQ’s alert system, can save a building owner a significant amount of time and money on repairs by identifying potential problems before a unit experiences a catastrophic failure.
