Energy Solutions’ mission is to create large-scale energy and water savings- related benefits for our clients by implementing market-based solutions and developing policies that contribute to these goals. We foster this mission by retaining a talented and committed team, providing a stimulating, healthy, and participatory workplace, and emphasizing creative new approaches that maximize the value of our services.

History

Founded in 1995 by President Samuel D. Cohen as a small consulting firm, Energy Solutions is now supported by Vice Presidents Ted Pope and Chris Burmester and a group of five Directors.  From our offices in Oakland and Long Beach, California, we provide energy efficiency and sustainability consulting, including design, marketing and management of energy efficiency programs. Our team has grown steadily to over 80 people and specializes in developing processes and tools for successfully managing complex programs. In the last seven years, we have expanded our services around sustainability issues.

Areas of Expertise

Energy Efficiency

Energy Solutions’ core area of expertise has always been energy efficiency. Our experience includes evaluating emerging technologies, benchmarking building energy use, conducting energy audits, acting as owner’s representative, designing and implementing energy efficiency programs, developing and defending state and federal appliance and building standards, and developing marketing strategies to maximize program impacts.

Renewable Energy

Energy efficiency and renewable energy are complementary strategies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other environmental impacts associated with energy production. Our services include renewable energy technical and financial feasibility studies, as well as guidance with Power Purchase Agreements and other financing options. Energy Solutions also assists clients with combined energy efficiency/renewable energy initiatives that reduce the cost of procuring renewable energy while increasing GHG reduction impacts.

Water

From sourcing and conveyance to distribution and use, embedded energy is integral to our water system. Energy Solutions works with water utility clients to reduce customer water use, as well as identify energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities in their own facilities. Our services range from water conservation program marketing and implementation, to energy audits of water and wastewater facilities, to renewable energy feasibility studies.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Identifying and tracking greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is the first step to reducing your facility, campus or community footprint. Energy Solutions works with local governments, public agencies, and partners to identify, define, and plan for phased GHG reduction efforts. Our team can assist in determining the cost-effectiveness of potential GHG reduction measures, provide guidance and assistance with goal setting and financing options, and manage project implementation.
